Verizon's DBIR 2019 - What Matters to Application Security?

The annual Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report is out again. This is considered the breach bible and is essential reading for security professionals. Verizon has released these reports since 2008 and they have gotten quite good at it. For 2019’s report, they looked at just over 42,000 security incidents and over 2,000 security breaches. Here at Security Compass, we wanted to take a look at the report and take note of and interpret data relevant to developers, programmers, and applications security professionals. This means we largely left out other security domains such as network security, endpoint security, or general security governance.
