The Security Watch team asked the penetration testing experts at Security Compass to take a look at some of our favorite apps to understand how they stack up, security-wise. One thing we learned from this exercise: there is always room for improvement.

We asked the penetration testing experts at Security Compass to analyze some apps recently reviewed here at PCMag. The team looked at the company's reputation, permissions requested by the app, and how the app handled authentication, local data storage, session management, and exposed services. We stayed with established and well-known developers and apps for this exercise, and learned quite a few things.
